Agile prompt

When I think of agility I think about it in the athletic sense. To me it is the ability to move quickly and efficiently around obstacles to gain an advantage.

Problems and pain arise in our life so quickly and out of no where. How valuable is agility in life with that truth? It seems like the ability to move swiftly around our problems would be very beneficial.

Barry Sanders perhaps better than anyone personifies the term agility. He made a lot of defenders look silly as he would juke one way and go the other before the defense even knew what hit them. Agility was a tool that Barry used better than anyone to gain an advantage over the defense. What strikes me now though is Barry is not considered the greatest running back ever overall. He has hundreds of highlights where he left defenders grasping at air, but he was tackled a lot as well. It was not a super power, but rather a tool in his tool belt to help him on the way. A gift he had learned to use to the best of his ability. That’s all we can do in life as well.

My point is we can use agility and move around problems but we’ll still get tackled eventually. Agility is helpful but life has defenders all over the field and we can’t juke them all out. While agility is not a cure for all, it certainly is a great tool to keep moving us forward. Find your gift and use it to the best of our ability.

Bonus thoughts:

Something is living in us all that keeps us from defeating every defender that comes our way in life. Why is that? Why can’t we learn to navigate life perfectly? In the thousands of years that humans have been on earth we haven’t figured out how to live a life free of pain or problems. Something is happening that is keeping that from happening isn’t it? Why is there no one agile enough, strong enough, fast enough, or whatever. Not even one!

  1. Love this. It seems to me that spiritual agility is the opposite of physical agility. We are more physically agile when we are young so we tend to use our human strength when push comes to shove. As we get older and wiser in Christ we lose our physical agility but our spiritual agility becomes heightened. When I’m walking in the Spirit it seems like the “game” slows down for me and I can see the whole field better than I could when I was younger and depending on my own strength more….keep writing brother!
